Creative Assignment 02: Magazine Cover – 50 Points
(TWO WEEK ASSIGNMENT — due Week 10 in class)
This assignment is all about understanding TYPE and LAYOUT.
It is a professional template from a printing company. This file is trim size of 8.25 x 10.75 inches, adding the bleed of 1/8″ all around (.25 to both the height and width) we have a 8.5 x 11 inch document PSD photoshop document at 300 pixels per inch (300 ppi). This is prepress production ready for high quality printing.
Feel free to design a different size but I would suggest keeping it at this size or smaller as you will be printing these out.
You must bring your color copy to class for review on October 26 or October 27 (your section)
Digital PSD file (flattened okay) due by the end of Week 10 to D2L.
We have TWO weeks for this assignment. You will first brainstorm for ideas, then come up with three different rough layout sketches (thumbnail comps) of your proposed solution. (can be hand sketched, mocked up in photoshop, or illustrator).
The Design lab will print your color work for $1 if it is 8.5 x 11 or smaller. We will review the printed piece during a critique session in class.
Part 1 – Do this for yourself, no need to turn in.
Three different rough loose quick concept layout sketches (comps) of your proposed solution.
(can be hand sketched, mocked up in photoshop, or illustrator). Does not have to look finished, but conveys ideas.
Part 2 – The final layered PSD file of your Magazine Cover Assignment.
Part 3 – PRINTED COLOR inkjet or color laser copy of your file on gloss stock. We will trim in class if you do not print borderless.
They are due PRINTED in class for CRITIQUE.
GRADING RUBRIC (50 points total possible):
Being present in class for critique: 10 points
Color Print: 10 points
Concept: 15 points total
Technical execution: 15 points total
